THE MASCOT

THE
PENGUIN is Abigail Rose Solomon’s personal symbol of
empowerment and success. When Abigail was twelve at
Camp Walden, her bunk performed Mary Poppins.
When she auditioned, everyone thought she’d get the
lead, but she was cast as a mere penguin. Nevertheless,
she penguined her heart out (even when chastised by a
competitive fellow camper) and stole the show. It was
then that she knew she had The Chops. For the rest of
the summer and summers to come, other campers would
request her to “do the penguin.”
Abigail drew this particular penguin after seeing the
documentary March of the Penguins. Male and
female Emperor Penguins share equal roles as travelers,
citizens, lovers and parents.
